Nexus 7 & Nook HD
Barns & Noble(BN), the second largest online bookstore in USA, announced a 7'' tablet called Nook HD two days ago. We have made a comparison of this device with Amazon Kindle Fire HD yesterday. Today we'll  continually compare it with another 7'' Android based tablet --- Google Nexus 7.

Before the comparison, I want to share some rumors about Nexus 7. It's said Google is developing 2 new Nexus 7 models with the manufacturer ASUS. These 2 devices, priced at $199 and $99, are predicted to put into market in the end of year. According to anonymous news, to compete with iPad Mini, a 7.85'' model which is rumored to be announced in October, the $99 Nexus 7 tablet will unveil before that.

Now let's compare the specifications of Nexus 7 and Nook HD.

Dimension & display
As 7'' tablets, these two devices have similar dimensions but Nexus 7 is a little heavier in weight. As to the display resolution, Nexus 7 has 1280*800 pixels resolution, which is lower than Nook HD's 1440*900.

OS & processor
The Nexus 7 is the first tablet of "Google Nexus devices" and equipped with the newest Android 4.1 OS. For the Nook HD, it comes up with customized Android 4.0, is a little out dated but reasonable to upgrade to 4.1 version later.

The Nook HD runs on a 1.3 GHz OMAP 4470 Dual-Core processor, which is one of the fastest processors in any of the most popular low-budget tablets. The Nook HD starts with 8GB of internal memory and able to expand easily with microSD card slot.

The Nexus 7 is powered by a Quad-Core 1.3 GHz Tegra 3 processor, which was one of the best low-budget tablet processors for a long time. It also has 8GB of internal memory but does not support microSD card expandation.

Camera
As we mentioned yesterday, Nook HD has no cameras. Nexus 7 has a 1.2MP front-facing camera for video chatting.

Communication
Both machines support WiFi and Bluetooth, additionally the Nexus 7 supports NFC feature (Android Beam).

Apps Store
Google Play, the Google's official apps store, has 675,000 applications. These apps have been downloaded 25 billion times, according to the Google's latest announcementWithout access to the full Google Play store, the Nook HD is rendered relatively useless.

Price
As competitors, Google and BN set the same price for the two tabelts: $199 for a 8GB version. But for a 16GB one, Nexus 7 priced at $249, which is $20 higher than Nook HD.

Conclusion
From we mentioned above, I can draw a conclusion that the Nook HD is newer and better than Nexus 7. The Nook HD has higher resolution, better processor and expandable memory.
However. Nexus 7 also has advantages such as camera, newest OS and apps store. So which 7'' tablet is your cup of tea?

Display & memory
Both tablets use the same 7'' touchscreen. The display resolution of Nook HD is 1440*900 pixels, better than Kindle fire HD's 1280*800 pixels. However, you can get a Nook HD with only 8GB memory by spending $199. With the same cost, you're able to get a Kindle Fire HD with16GB memory. Which one is more worthwhile?

Dimension, OS & processor
The two devices almost have the same dimensions but Kindle Fire HD is 80grams heavier than Nook HD. Both of them run customized Android 4.0 OS and use TI OMAP processor. The main difference is about the processor's model. Nook HD equipped with a 1.3GHz OMAP 4470, which is the upgrade version of Kindle Fire HD's 1.2GHz OMAP 4460.

Camera
If you always use Skype to chat with other people online, the Kindle Fire HD will be the first choice because it comes up with a front-facing camera. Unfortunately, the Nook HD has no cameras.

Battery
The battery of Kindle Fire HD supports video playing up to 7 hours. For the Nook HD, the video playing time is up to 9 hours. And how about reading time? Their batteries can support about 11 hours of reading.

Connection
Both tablets support Bluetooth and WiFi.

Content
We all know the app store is one of the most important thing for potential consumers. The Kindle Fire HD supports 50,000 apps from Amazon AppStore. And how about the Nook HD? Well, currently there are only 6,000 apps available. Additionally, the Kindle series are able to visit the video service of Amazon. To catch up with Amazon, Barnes & Noble also announced a similar service called Nook Video.

The competition between 7'' tablets is more and more fierce. Google Nexus 7, Kindle Fire HD, Nook HD and more upcoming ones, who on the earth will be the best selling device? Just wait and see.

Rumor: Google Nexus 5 Smartphone Will Be Made By HTC?

HTC One X 5
HTC One X 5 or Google Nexus 5?
It has been almost one year since the announcement of Samsung Galaxy Nexus. And now it's believed that the latest Nexus Devices will be soon revealed. According to an article from GSM Arena, there's rumor said the Taiwanese giant HTC will produce Google's latest Nexus smartphone, probably named HTC Droid Incredible X, HTC One X 5 or Google Nexus 5.

The article also provides some specifications about this rumored Google Nexus 5:
  • Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean OS with bugfixes, project butter improvements (fluid speeds) and more lock screen options, etc.
  • 5'' display with 1080p, large and slim appearance.
  • Snapdragon S4 Pro processor.
  • A 12MP rear-facing camera and a 2MP front-facing camera.
  • 2,500mAh battery.
  • Internal memory up to 64GB.
  • LTE connectivity.
We currently unable to confirm the legitimacy of the rumor though the tipster said it comes from reliable source. One of the suspect point is about the Android version. As "Google's very own sons", all Nexus devices have brought with new Android software upgrades - but why Nexus 5 not comes up with 5.0 Key Lime Pie OS? That's skeptical. Is it possible for Google to create this phone by his own Motorola? We'll continually wait and see.

Well, no matter which manufacturer would make Google Nexus 5, it will probably be the 6th Nexus Device. The former ones are: Nexus One, produced by HTC; Nexus S and Galaxy Nexus, both produced by Samsung; Nexus 7 tablet, produced by ASUS and Nexus Q, a media-streaming entertainment device.
